The Grand Egyptian Museum

Enter the Grand Egyptian Museum, an architectural marvel standing proudly in the Giza plateau, Egypt.  As you step foot inside, prepare to be transported back in time to an era of majestic pharaohs, awe-inspiring pyramids, and enigmatic hieroglyphs. Let's delve into this extraordinary museum, where each artifact tells a story of a civilization that flourished along the banks of the mighty Nile River.

The Grand Egyptian Museum's Location:
The Grand Egyptian Museum is a modern museum of ancient Egyptian antiquities, built between (2007-2010) and located in Giza, next to the Pyramids of Giza.
A team of architects and laborers is diligently working on the expansive 117-acre Grand Egyptian Museum. Nestled on a desert plain bordering the Nile Valley, the new museum offers visitors a breathtaking view of the Pyramids of Giza, among the world's most iconic monuments.

Designing the Grand Egyptian Museum:
The project's design reflects Egypt's ambitious goal of creating a new architectural marvel near the Pyramids of Giza. The facade of the museum showcases Alabaster, while its roof seamlessly complements the surrounding pyramids.
The massive triangular gate marking the museum's entrance guides visitors to its central courtyard, destined to showcase an 83-ton statue of Pharaoh Ramses II. This monumental sculpture, once situated in the heart of the capital at Ramses Square, now finds its new home within the museum's grand courtyard.
Visitors ascend a majestic staircase adorned with statues depicting gods and kings, arriving at the expansive show halls. Within, exhibits are arranged based on various historical periods and thematic categories, encompassing topics like religion, government, and society. Tall glass windows located at the southeast end of the building provide panoramic vistas of the pyramids without obstruction.

Artifacts and displays at the Grand Egyptian Museum:
The museum hosts archaeological artifacts representing thousands of years of Egyptian civilization, from the predynastic era to the Greco-Roman period (approximately 3100 BCE to 400 CE). Its collection is sourced from various cultural institutions across Egypt, including the renowned Egyptian Museum in downtown Cairo, established in 1858.

1. The statue of Ramses II underwent relocation from Ramses Square in Cairo to the entrance gate of the Grand Egyptian Museum in 2015.
2. In March 2016, in Luxor Governorate, 778 artifacts were meticulously prepared for transfer to the Grand Egyptian Museum. Enhanced security measures were implemented, and packaging methods adhering to international standards were employed. These artifacts represent various periods in Egyptian history, with a predominant focus on the New Kingdom era. Additionally, the collection includes pottery fragments and an assortment of coffins.
3. On 8 September 2016, 525 artifacts were transferred from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir to the Grand Egyptian Museum, including 367 pieces of King Tutankhamun's belongings, in preparation for displaying them as part of his collection to be fully transferred to the Grand Egyptian Museum upon the partial opening of the museum in 2018.
4. On August 6, 2021, Khufu's original boat, discovered in 1954 on the southern side of the Pyramid of Khufu, was relocated from its museum in the Pyramid Antiquities Area. A remote-controlled smart vehicle, specially imported from Belgium for this purpose, was utilized to transport the boat in one piece, avoiding disassembly, to its new exhibition location at the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Grand Egyptian Museum is a remarkable testament to Egypt's rich history and heritage. With its vast collection of artifacts and state-of-the-art facilities, it offers visitors a fascinating journey through ancient civilizations.
